India’s largest and oldest junior golf event, the Inter-School Golf Championship will have its 17th edition to be staged at the prestigious Tollygunge Club from 24th March-25th March 2022. A total of 18 schools across India will be participating in this tournament. Exciting young golfing talents from the country will be seen representing their schools at the nation’s largest junior golf stage.
The junior golf championship, which began in 2005, went for sixteen years without a break, however, because of the country’s worsening Covid-19 crisis in the last two years, the organizers were forced to postpone the tournament, which was initially scheduled to take place in 2021, to 2022. Despite the fact that the 2022 edition will take place in November.
There will be six divisions for the participants, namely, Open Category Under 9 years, Open Category Under 13 years, Open Category Over 13 years, Under 9 years for Girls, Under 13 years for Girls, and Over 13 years for Girls. The tournament will be in fourball better ball Strokeplay format.
Some of the notable past champions from this tournament are now the country’s top golfer, Viraj Madappa, Siddhi Kapoor, Udayjit Bhalotia, and Sunit Chowrasia.
The event is in partnership with Muskaan a pan-India initiative of Prabha Khaitan Foundation and Education For All Trust aimed at promoting skill development among children through webinars, courses and workshops. Muskaan seeks to popularize culture and heritage literature among the young children in India by weaving it into the formal and informal education system. This is done by engaging students in diverse activities like cultural programmes, story-telling, theatre, dance, music and art which are organized in collaboration with our national and international institutes and associations. Muskaan also supports needy and marginalized students by providing them with tuition/coaching classes; stationeries and study materials; distributing nutritious food and providing basic hygiene amenities.
The event is also supported by the Tollygunge Club. The tournament is going to be played under the pristine conditions, as the Professional Golf Tour of India’s Player’s Championship played here just a few days back.
